Caspar van Houten (Antwerp, 1966) is a Belgian artist. After completing his education in art he began work as a painting and sculpture teacher.p>
After several years he began work for graphic design companies as an art-director, whilst still carrying on his passion for painting.
Over the last few years Van Houten has been working on his skills as a painter and developing his quirky style. His paintings of chickens and cockerels have attracted much interest over the past decade. Caspar has been able to connect a clearly recognizable signature to his work. Simple forms, firm contours and especially the use of bright, bright colors are form the basis of his work. Van Houten’s use of silver leaf and free flowing lines add another dimension to his paintings.
Interestingly he mostly paints at night, when the world is asleep and all is calm and quiet. The nocturnal silence is preferably the moment when Caspar entrusts his creativity to the – at the start – virgin white canvas.
