Maria de Vries (Mierlo, 1955) is a Dutch artist. The paintings of Maria de Vries, in her own words, are born, not created. With spontaneous brushstrokes and a diversity of mostly earthy colors the images receive subtly recognizable forms. Maria travels to inhospitable areas outside the country and tranfers the images and emotions into spontaneous and harmonious art works. It is fascinating to see how her emotions play with colors, shapes and lines. The game begins indiscernible, but is gradually, often to her own surprise, becoming visible. No wonder that Maria’s language communicates and is appreciated by so many art lovers. It’s interesting to experience how much Maria cares about creating art.
Maria de Vries lives in the Peel region, she feels at home in the vicinity of sometimes still untouched nature. During long walks Maria absorbs the endless color combinations, which are then transferred to her paintings. De Vries loves to depict animals and humans, and to show their relationship to each other and to the viewer.
