Francisca Kalmijn has been painting portraits, landscapes, and water paintings for more than 25 years. She has a strong urge to create and ever since her training at the Art Academy of Utrecht she has made hundreds of paintings. As a little girl she often went on nature walks with her grandad and afterwards she would tell him what she had seen. Even then she had her own unique way of looking at nature. Her colorful paintings show how light reflects in the water. Mysterious reflections, the water’s edge, and flowers are important elements in her work. Her greatest challenge is painting the particularly special Dutch light, which reflects different colors in the changing seasons. The Dutch masters are also a source of inspiration. Lately she has also created a more abstract way of painting, but here also the color reflections in light and water remain an important style aspect of her work.
