The tabletop is from Padouk. Padouk is an exotic wood from Cameroon. The leaf on the picture is made from one piece of 100 by 220 cm. This is the maximum diameter that the Padouk tree can achieve. The coral red leaf is the natural color of the wood. What’s special about Padouk is the white outer edge, the sapwood, along with the coral-red leaves. This is what makes the Padouk so beautiful. In addition, the wood is stable and hard as teak. Sustainability class 1.

Wood in this format is only available in small quantities. Fortunately, Studio Peer still has a few pieces available. The wood of this table is oiled which makes the color slightly warmer and more rustic. The wood can also be lacquered in silk or high gloss, which makes it more upscale. A nice extra is that varnish preserves the wood better so it will discolor less quickly.

It is important to know that Padouk will discolor over time. Padouk that has been oiled will darken faster. It will discolor depending on the amount of sun it gets. From coral red to aubergine to reddish-brown. If the leaves are not immediately in full sun, the discoloration process will be much slower. If the wood is treated with a good varnish with a UV filter, the coral will stay longer, but time will irrevocably discolor the leaves.

The special steel table legs

The table top stands on double rip curl legs of double 8 mm thick sheets of rolled steel. The elegant rip curl shape is plasma cut from steel and then welded together. The legs have been sprayed with clear lacquer. Of course, the steel can also be sprayed in any RAL color.
